Miller brings with him a work record of providing accurate and factual information to the community. “Austin has had to take information from multiple sources, determining what is pertinent and credible, and sharing that with the public,” noted City Manager Mari Macomber. “We need someone who can ask us the right questions, and clearly and concisely inform the public.”

In his role at the Kirkville Daily Express, Miller has had the opportunity to meet many people throughout the community. His coverage of local events has focused on helping the public understand not only what was happening but why.

“I never expected to seek a position outside of journalism, but my work as Editor of the Daily Express opened my eyes to a larger view of the city. There are many different people, groups and entities that call Kirksville home. I see this new position as a way to make sure residents get the information they need.” stated Miller.

Miller is a self-taught photographer with strong listening and writing skills, and the ability to communicate succinctly and clearly. “We are looking forward to Austin joining the city, to help us stay on top of and in front of issues that matter to and impact our citizens, so that those affected most know ahead of everyone else,” added Macomber.

Miller is a graduate of Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, and a minor in Political Science, working in the field of Journalism since 2016. Miller has been a part of the Kirksville community since 2018 when he assumed his responsibilities with the local newspaper. Miller will begin his role as the Communications Director in June.
