Written by on March 3, 2022

BLOOMFIELD, Ia.- A collision between a pickup and a semi proved fatal for a Montezuma man Wednesday evening.  The Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened just before 7:30 pm in Davis County near the intersection of Highway 63 and 230th street.

According to the Patrol, a pickup truck towing a camper driven by 79-year old Michael Floyd Talbert of Montezuma was southbound on Highway 63 when it crossed the center line into the northbound lane.  A semi being driven northbound by 47-year old Steven Charles Roloson of Central City swerved to the right-hand shoulder of the road in an effort to avoid the collision.

The driver’s side of the pickup struck the driver’s side of the semi.  The camper was destroyed and the pickup came to rest on the southbound shoulder of the highway.  The semi crossed back across the southbound lanes and came to rest on the west side of the roadway.

Talbert was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was wearing a seatbelt.  The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Davis County Sheriff’s Department.
