KIRKSVILLE, Mo.- The Community Action Partnership of Northeast Missouri, or CAPNEMO, is encouraging residents of Adair, Clark, Knox, Schuyler and Scotland Counties to participate in the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP. LIHEAP is designed to help keep Missourians safe and healthy by helping low-income families pay their energy bills. The program can assist in several ways. The Energy Assistance (EA) program helps you with a one-time payment for your primary heating bills from November through March. EA does NOT require your energy to be shut off or threatened to be shut off. The Summer Energy Crisis Intervention Program assists families who may have had their electricity shut off through the summer months. Emergency Services Coordinator Edna Whitlock says the deadline to apply for funds from that program ends soon.
The Winter Energy Crisis Intervention Program is available November through May, depending on funding. It assists families with a maximum one-time payment of $800 toward their heating bill.
You can apply for assistance online at the CAPNEMO website: www.nmcaa.org, or you can call their office at 660-665-9855.
