Farmington Couple Killed in Car vs Semi Crash

DONNELLSON, Ia- A Farmington couple was killed in a car vs semi collision Wednesday afternoon north of Donnellson.

The Iowa State Patrol says a semi driven by 53-year old Juan Julio Cavallini Ramirez of Red Oak, Texas, was traveling northbound on Highway 218 at the intersection with J40 at 4:30 pm. A PT Cruiser driven by 73-year old Rose Marie Catherine Becker of Farmington was stopped at the intersection traveling west. Becker then attempted to cross Highway 218 and pulled into the path of the semi.

Becker’s car was struck in the driver’s side door and both vehicles came to rest in the median. A passenger in the car, 75-year old Ross Wayne Becker, was ejected from the vehicle upon impact.

Both Ross and Rose Becker were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither of them were wearing a seatbelt. The accident remains under investigation. The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, West Point Fire Department and the Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division.
