Scotland County R-1 Return to School Plan

Written by on August 16, 2021

MEMPHIS, Mo.- The Scotland County R-1 School District will welcome students back on Monday, August 23rd.  At the regular monthly meeting of the SCR-1 School Board last Tuesday, the district reviewed and adopted the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan for the coming school year.  This plan outlines the guidelines and procedures the district will follow as they attempt to safely navigate the COVID-19 situation.  Superintendent Dr. Ryan Bergeson said that the start of the upcoming school year will basically reflect how the previous school year ended.

Dr. Bergeson stated that one mitigation strategy will be a heightened focus on sanitation and hygiene practices in the district’s facilities.

Another key part of the return to school plan will be the district’s cooperation with the Scotland County Health Department in helping to identify close contacts when positives are identified within the district.

One aspect of this year’s plan that is new as compared to last year is that vaccination status may play a role in quarantine protocols.  When the health department contact traces a student or staff member, they requirement to quarantine may differ depending upon whether or not that individual has received the COVID-19 shot.

Dr. Bergeson says that the district intends to have an open admissions policy for fall sports and activities, at least for now.  He says that the outdoor nature of those activities makes that approach much more feasible.
