Scotland County R-1 School Board Holds July Meeting

MEMPHIS, Mo.- 7/9/21- The Scotland County R-1 School Board met in regular session Thursday night at 6 pm. Six board members were present, Sidney Hurley was absent. Superintendent Dr. Ryan Bergeson reported that the school’s fiscal year closed out June 30th with the district ending with a surplus of just shy of $29,000. The board voted to make the upcoming school year the final year for recognizing a valedictorian and salutatorian. The district will recognize graduates utilizing the Cum Laude Honor system beginning with the 2022-23 school year.
In other business, the board voted to approve the Seamless Summer Application which would allow for free breakfast and lunch for all students through September 30, 2021. The district hopes that those free meals will continue for the remainder of the school year, but is contingent upon application approval.
The board also approved the elementary and secondary student handbooks for the upcoming school year. Electronic copies will be provided to students at the beginning of the year and a copy will be posted to the school website.
The next board meeting was set for August 10th at 6 pm in the Elementary Library with the tax rate hearing beginning at 5:45 pm.
The open session was then adjourned and in executive session the board hired Hailey Middleton as a paraprofessional. The meeting was then adjourned.
