Train vs Semi Collision in Gorin

Written by on January 25, 2023

GORIN, Mo.- A Florida man escaped injury when his semi and trailer were struck by a BNSF freight train Wednesday morning.  The collision occurred around 10:30 am on the railroad crossing at the intersection of Route A and Route U in Gorin.

24-year old Ehsanullah Folad of Sunrise, Florida, was driving the semi and was pulling a flat-bed trailer that had low ground clearance.  The trailer was loaded with steel tubes destined for a local business in Gorin.

As Folad was attempting to drive over the rail crossing, the trailer became high-centered, resulting in the unit becoming stuck on the tracks.  About six minutes later an eastbound BNSF freight train came down the tracks and struck the semi and trailer broadside.

Folad was able to get out of the semi before the impact occurred, and thus escaped any injury.  Authorities on scene stated that none of the train crew were injured in the collision.

Scotland County Sheriff Bryan Whitney told KMEM News that the train pushed the semi and trailer down the tracks about two blocks before coming to a complete stop.  Heavy duty recovery trucks were brought on scene to remove the semi and trailer from the tracks.

The crossing and intersection remained closed to the public for about five hours, as the steel tubes and semi were removed from the scene and the train was checked over before being moved.  Whitney stated that the crossing was re-opened for public use at 3:30 pm.
