MEMPHIS, Mo.- 5/10/21- A Scotland County man accused of stalking is behind bars. Scotland County Sheriff Bryan Whitney reports that 44-year old Chad Jeremy Peterson of Gorin was arrested Sunday morning. He is charged with 1st degree stalking- 1st offense, a class E felony.
According to court documents, Peterson was served with an order of protection on April 20th. He was cited a week later for violating that order due to numerous and repeated attempts to contact the victim. The attempts at contact continued on a nearly daily basis, even after the citation was issued.
In addition to sending repeated letters, messages and flowers, Peterson had a tracking device placed on the victim’s vehicle. The woman first became aware of this when she began to receive email messages to her phone indicating that the batteries on the tracking device were low and needed replaced. When questioned, Peterson admitted to purchasing the device after the protection order had been initially served and having an employee place it on the woman’s vehicle.
Peterson is being held in the county jail in lieu of a $75,000 cash-only bond.
